Today is the birthday of dancing sensation Prabhu Deva who has time and again proved that there is more to him than meets the eye.  Starting his entertainment career as a dancer in his father Sundaram's songs, he got noticed from the sidelines and in "April mayile pasumaiye illa" from 'Idayam'.  A string of movies followed such as 'Suryan', 'Walter Vettrivel' and others in which he appeared for one song but he was featured in the posters to draw the audiences.

Prabhu Deva then became a busy dance choreographer and his style became a rage throughout India.  Shankar saw the actor in him and introduced him as hero in 'Kadhalan' following which he made his mark as a front line hero whose films ran big nationally.

PD as he is now called then widened his horizons and made his debut as director with 'Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana' and later became one of the highest paid in Bollywood after 'Wanted' and 'Rowdy Rathore'.  He is one of the few actors who made a comeback in his forties and still welcomed back by the audiences as proved by the success of 'Devi' and 'Gulebakavali' and the "Rubber Man" is now starring in half a dozen movies including 'Lakshmi', 'Mercury', 'Khamoshi' and others.
