The South Indian Film Artists Association (Nadigar Sangam) Election will not be held on July 15 as the First bench of the Madras High Court comprising of two judges refused to interfere with the single Judge`s order issuing a stay on the proposed election. This comes as a big blow to the Sangam`s present office bearers including the President R.Sarathkumar. The judges who heard Nadigar Sangam General Secretary Radharavi`s plea to vacate the stay on election, refused to vacate the stay.

Actor Vishal along with his supporters actors Karthi, Nasser, Ponvannan and Karunas have announced that they will compete in the elections to be held for the key posts in the Nadigar sangam. However, they are opposed to conducting the election on July 15 which is weekday and also the proposed place of election which they feel will be inconvenient for the members to come and vote. They had filed a petition in the Madras High Court to stay the election and order for the election to be conducted under the supervision of a retired judge. A couple of weeks back, the judge had issued a stay on the election and that prompted Radharavi to appeal against the stay to the higher bench.Meanwhile Vishal had filed a caveat petition in the court to ensure that his side was heard before passing any further order on the election.

The higher bench has not only refused to vacate the stay but also questioned about the alleged changes made in the bylaws of the Sangam which has been objected by the rebel group headed by Vishal. They have ordered the registrar of co- operative societies who has registered the Sangam to file a detailed reply about the changes made in bylaws and asked him to be present during the next hearing scheduled on July 28.

The judges also asked why the Sangam`s office bearers are opposed to the proposal of conducting the election under the supervision of a retired judge.

A clearer picture on when and how the elections would be conducted can be expected on Julu 28.
