Nasraani

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

He is popularly called as D.K in his circuits. His actual name is David John Kottaram-the only heir of the rich Kottaram Tharavadu, which is a prominent Christian family of middle Travancore. Even though being a man who is amidst riches, friends and popularity, he never makes showoffs, and is the most trusted friend of many influential persons. He bases his operations mostly on the cosmo club, which lives though him.

Even though he is a man of good temperament and values, he is always there to speak up for the downtrodden and against the lawlessness whenever he faces one. He firmly believes that nothing can be a substitute to occasions where he has to deal with real force.

This is the character Joshy and scriptwriter Renjith is creating for Mammootty in the new film. Nasraani is what a Christian is called in the local lingo in Kerala. It's also the title of new film, which is slated to hit cinema halls during the festive season of Ramzan.

Nasraani zooms in on the life of a rich planter, David John Kottaram, who leads a luxurious life style. He lives for his friends and is willing to do anything for them. The only person who has any strong influence on him is Narayana Swamy, a retired advocate from Supreme Court. Even though David John seems happy all the time, he has got his share of sorrows, the important one being the long wait that he infused upon Sara, with whom he was betrothed ten years ago, but due to some family reasons couldn't reach up in marriage. Sara, a college lecture, is still not yielding to move away from him as she waits in the hopes of uniting with him some day. David is another kind of person, who even celebrates the anniversary of this betrothal with his friends.

In this eventful life of D K, everything is turned topsy turvy when his beloved ones are affected by certain incidents, least expected, which forms the basic plot of the movie. The film which uses the best of the mannerisms of Mammootty will in all terms satisfy the fans of the star, who are in the lookout for a Super Duper hit. More over, Mammootty has been excellent always in presenting Achayan characters like he did it in Sangham, Kottayam Kunjachan to the latest Pothen Vava. Kalabhavan Mani plays Suku, the right hand of D K, his driver who has a key role in the movie.

The film which was shot extensively in Kochi and Pala has two heroines- Muktha and Vimala Raman. K.P.A.C. Lalitha is Mammootty's sister in the movie. Others in the cast include Jagathy Sreekumar, Lalu Alex, Vijayaraghavan, Saikumar, Biju Menon, Bharat Gopi, Maniyanpilla Raju, Siddhique, Captain Raju, Baburaj, Agastin, Sadique, Babu Namboodiri, Anil Murali, Biju Pappan, Sukumari and Ponnamma Babu .While Shaji cranks the camera for the film, Bijibal scores the music to lyrics by Anil Pachooran.
