Kicker Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs expressed lately his wish for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's future, saying he wanted them to be married and have children. Butker talked on meeting the "humble" and "gracious" musician during a New Year's Eve celebration following a Chiefs victory in an interview with EWTN's "News in Depth."

Butker acknowledged, remembering their quick football conversation, "I was nervous to meet Taylor Swift, it's Taylor Swift." Butker did say that his favorite Swift song is "Bejeweled," especially the line "familiarity breeds contempt."

This exact sentence was cited by Butker on May 11 during his contentious commencement speech at Benedictine College. He said that these problems are the result of a "pervasiveness of disorder" and attacked abortion, women in the working, gender theories, and Pride Month. "Homemaker" should be the "most important title" for female graduates, he said, and males should embrace "unapologetic masculinity."

"My lovely wife Isabelle, would be the first to say her life truly started when she began her vocation as a wife and mother," Butker added. Using Swift as a source, he said, "As my teammate's girlfriend says, 'Familiarity breeds contempt."

Chiefs and Swiftie supporters swiftly denounced Butker's remarks on social media. “Harrison Butker did a bang-up job of becoming one of the most hated men in North America in a 20-minute speech full of bigotry and misogyny,” one user said.

The NFL's chief diversity and inclusion officer, Jonathan Beane, responded by making it clear that Butker's opinions are his own and do not speak for the league. Beane restated that the league is dedicated to diversity.

Butker hasn't yet commented on the criticism.
