Fazil

Fazil is a past master in soft, close-to-the-heart romantic entertainers. His films known for their clean frames and clearer screenplay.

It is no different in Oru Naal Oru Kanavu. Thanks to a good script, melodious music by Ilayaraja and a good on-screen chemistry between the lead pair Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal,ONOK works for most part of the time.

The story revolves around Maya (Sonia Agarwal), a college student, who always wants to triumphs in all her endeavors. She comes across a middle class youth, Cheenu (Srikanth), a happy-go-lucky-youngster, who strives to work hard to get his sisters married well.

A few encounters (Maya and Cheenu) results in wordy duels between them leading to Maya challenging Cheenu that she will make him fall in love with her. Her further course of action to achieve her challenge leaves Cheenu frustrated and he decides to take revenge on her by pretending to fall in love with her.

Maya who starts to spend more time with Cheenu comes to know of his kind heart and his good nature and eventually develops an honest love towards him. She even helps him in setting his own business house.Slowly Cheenu too comes to know of Maya's nobleness and generosity land falls in love with her.

Trouble comes in the form of her brothers who threaten Cheenu of dire consequences. Cheenu resolves to earn more and become rich and then hold the hands of Maya. But Maya has plans otherwise. Does the couple end up in getting wed-locked forms the rest of the story.

It's Srikanth, who deserves a special mention for understanding the subtleties of the role and executing it with aplomb on screen. After being out of his depths in many films, Srikanth seems to have come into his own in this. Fazil deserves plaudits for using Srikanth in a character that suits him to a T. Refreshing to see Srikanth playing a bubbly youth.

As usual it is a typical Sonia Agarwal on screen, who loves and cares for the hero. She has given a creditable performance. The supporting cast including Ilavarasan, Nizhalgal Ravi, Sathyan and Sukumar have done the job entrusted to them well.

Ilayaraja's melodious number Kaatril Varum Geetham is sure to delight the audience. Equally impressive are the other songs in the movie.

All kudos to the producers Swaminathan, Muralidharan, Venugopal and director Fazil for coming out with a emotional film without any of the typical masala stuff.

Oru Naal Oru Kanavu is worth a watch.
