Bollywood beauty queen and winner of Miss World pageant of 2000 Priyanka Chopra has left all her contemporary actresses behind as she snatched her crown of World`s Sexiest Asian Woman back from Katrina Kaif in the most prestigious annual poll conducted by UK-based weekly newspaper 'Eastern Eye'.
Priyanka Chopra left behind top Bollywood actresses like Deepika Padukone at sixth position, Kareena Kapoor eighth position, Sonam Kapoor at ninth position, Shraddha Kapoor at seventeenth position, Alia Bhatt at twenty-fourth position, Mahira Khan at Thirty fourth position, Kangana Ranaut at thirty eighth position and Anushka Sharma at forty seventh position.
What comes as most shocking is that Katrina Kaif, who had been winning the title and has been a permanent fixture in the top three for the past six years, was thrown at fourth position!
The biggest surprise of 2014 was the sheer dominance of television actresses from India. Interestingly the number two and third positions too went TV actress and not any Bollywood heroine!
The TV actress who came at number two position is Drashti Dhami, the sexy damsel who made her debut with MADHUBALA and also won the sixth season of celebrity dance reality show JHALAK DIKHHLA JAA.
According Asjad Nazir, founder and chairman of the judging panel and showbiz editor at Eastern Eye, said, "Drashti Dhami, has been a notable contender because she is the first television actress to crack the top three in 2013 and this year she gave a tough competition to Priyanka Chopra." He added, "Drashti Dhami had led the voting at one stage and was edging towards victory but alas she narrowly missed out on the top spot to come in second."
The other TV actress who reached the top three position was Sanaya Irani, who achieved stardom with her TV serial MILEY JAB HUM TUM. She subsequently appeared in ISS PYAAR KO KYA NAAM DOON?. Irani also did a cameo in the Yash Raj Film FANAA.
The highest new entry was reality TV star Gauahar Khan at number 5 and the second highest new entry was young actress Preetika Rao at tenth position.
The Indian television actresses who made the list included Nia Sharma (7), Asha Negi (12), Shakti Mohan (13), Surbhi Jyoti (16), Hina Khan (23) and Kritika Kamra (30).
