One of the things that inspired Amitabh Bachchan to produce "Viruddh" was the story of an elderly couple taking on the system. It reminded him of something similar that he had faced.

"Viruddh", directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, portrays the fight against the system by an elderly, middle class couple whose only son is murdered under mysterious circumstances and later wrongly accused of being a criminal.

According to Bachchan, son Abhishek told him about the script after Manjrekar discussed it with the younger actor while shooting for "Run". "It is a very topical film, which is different from the ordinary, glamorized and escapist commercial cinema that we usually see," he added.

He also praised Manjrekar and commented on his unique style of direction, which made the film a unique experience. "I have always felt that directors who are actors know the exact craft and tempo of a scene, something that Mahesh Manjrekar amply represents."

He also spoke on his forthcoming release "Sarkar", in which he and Abhishek have worked together for the first time in the role of a father and son.
