The betrothal ceremony of Soundarya Rajinikanth with Ashwin Ramkumar was a simple yet elegant event at a star hotel in Chennai on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by some of the big guns of Tamil film industry, including Rajini's mentor K Balachandar, producers Panchu Arunachalam, Kalaipuli S Thanu, directors S P Muthuraman, Shankar, lyricist Vairamuthu and actors Prabhu and Vijayakumar among others.

And the special guest was Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who turned up for the function with his wives Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal, daughter Kanimozhi, daughter-in-law Durga Stalin and grandson Udhayanidhi Stalin.

An engineering graduate, Ashwin did his higher studies in the United States. He is currently looking after his father’s construction business in Chennai, while Soundarya is taking care of Ocher Picture Productions, whose maiden venture 'Goa' hit screens recently.

Date for this love-cum-arranged marriage will be announced soon, say sources in the know.
