The criticism against Sanjay Manjrekar is continuing and the latest to join the list of those disappointed is Ravindra Jadeja. Following the commentator’s statement in a previous match about the all-rounder, it looks like Jadeja really took the words to heart and has responded on Twitter. Manjrekar had said: “I am not a big fan of bits and pieces players which Jadeja is at this point of his career in 50-over cricket. In Test matches, he is a pure bowler. But in 50-over cricket, I would rather have a batsman and a spinner.”

Jadeja responded to this by saying: “Still i have played twice the number of matches you have played and i m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved.i have heard enough of your verbal diarrhoea.@sanjaymanjrekar (sic).” While one section of fans agrees with Jadeja’s response, another section feels that commentators are entitled to a critical assessment of cricketers and that dragging in Manjrekar’s performance as a player isn’t warranted.

Jadeja hasn’t played any matches in this World Cup, but every time he has come in as a substitute, he has proved his worth taking practically impossible catches. His statistics show that in 151 matches he has scored 2035 runs and taken 174 wickets. The question remains as to if Manjrekar’s comment is valid and was it necessary. Manjrekar was already the talk of the town for his statements against Dhoni and biased commentating. Fans had even requested for his removal from the panel. This has taken the issue one step further. What will the ICC’s response be?
