2020 may have had too few releases but the year was never short of churning out some of the most stupid outings you can think of. There were hardly 30 reviewable movies but picking 5 moronic movies that deceptively looked promising was not difficult.

The list is limited to films that had some traction in trade and OTT circles. There were a number of forgettable movies that were never expected to be anything but bad and we haven't considered them for the purpose of trolling.

Entha Machivadavura:

Director Satish Vegesna wanted to deliver another 'Shatamanam Bhavati', but he ended up doling out a film that was worse than 'Srinivasa Kalyanam'. This Nandamuri Kalyanram-starrer was all about loving people and hating the audience's peace of mind. A remake of the Gujarati movie 'Oxygen', it had the male lead spreading love to random people as if he had cancer. Not that the emotion informing the story was absurd. But the story itself was laughably one-note and most of the scenes were borderline trite.

World Famous Lover:

Vijay Deverakonda's Valentine's Day title was a delayed release at the box-office. It could be predicted from the trailer itself that only one Deverakonda was a real character while the other Deverakondas were imaginary in the story. Directed by Kranthi Madhav and probably ghost-made by VD, the film turned out to be a bigger dud than what the trailer suggested. After a point, the emotional outbursts of the main characters looked forced and melodramatic in a contrived way. Aishwarya Rajesh did a nice job and she was the only one who was consistently good in 'WFL'. Even VD hammed in the second half.

V:

Mohankrishna Indraganti apparently wanted to cast Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu in 'V'. As luck would have it, he couldn't do it. If not, the two heroes would have taken years to outgrow the disaster called 'V' and nobody would have dared to make multi-starrers for a decade. Nani and Sudheer Babu starred in this crashing bore of a thriller that released on OTT on September 5. The film went on to become one of the most-watched movies of the year on Amazon Prime. However, in terms of content, it was vapid. Besides being a casting nightmare, it was a thoroughly old-fashioned thriller that fizzled out after the big reveal. At 139 minutes, it was a terrible, terrible drag. And that item song featuring a super-confident Harish Utthaman was the second wave that the audience couldn't survive.

Nishabdham:

'Nishabdham', which released on OTT on October 2, was an unpalatable thriller that had a bland screenplay and unintentionally funny scenes. Anushka Shetty played a mute person who received liberal help from a voice-based translator app. There was no point in showing her as a mute artist in the first place. Madhavan's dubbing was a dead giveaway. It was clear from the first act itself that he was the villain. Anjali hammed, while Shalini Pandey was boring. It's very much possible that the story was written after Simbu's 'Manmadhudu' came out.

Miss India:

Keerthy Suresh played an Indian who moves to the US and becomes a business tycoon of gigantic proportions in no time. Directed by Narendra Nath, this alleged corporate drama had juvenile ideas passing for corporate wars. It also had a love track in which the heroine and her boring boyfriend talk about all things irrelevant to romance. Had the director of this film hated mediocrity as much as the protagonist hates coffee, he would have given a miss to 'Miss India'.
