It may not be a much-remembered fact that Rohit Sharma was not selected for the Indian squad in the 2011 World Cup. But a tweet that he had put back then has come to attention again on this Throwback Thursday. In 2011, the Hitman had said: “Really, really disappointed of not being the part of the WC squad..I need to move on frm here..But honestly it was a big setback..any views! (sic)." The ICC brought this post back into circulation reminding Rohit Sharma of his journey.

On Instagram, ICC wrote: “The power of not giving up on your dreams ?? #LoveCricket” with a picture of Rohit Sharma. Many fans have taken this in another way and feel that it indirectly targetting Ambati Rayudu who announced his retirement from international cricket yesterday. Rayudu had not been selected for the World Cup squad. His comment about ordering 3D glasses to watch the tournament as a taunt of Vijay Shankar went viral. Even when Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar needed replacement, he was not chosen. There was a lot of trolling against the batsman and memes about his reactions flooded the internet. Following that, Rayudu announced his retirement.

There has been a lot of talk on the matter. But meanwhile, let’s not forget Rohit Sharma’s achievement. The batsman is the leading run-scorer with 544 runs and an average of 90 in this World Cup. Congratulations to him and hope the runs keep coming.
