Rudramambapuram, starring Ajay Ghosh and Rajasekhar Aningi is out for streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar today. Let's see how it goes.
Story:
Shivayya (Rajasekhar Aningi) is a fisherman and a reputed person in Rudramambapuram. He has a problem with rival fisher flok, led by Tirupathi (Ajay Ghosh), who use ring nets to catch fish in the sea. Tirupathi’s son, Seenayya (Arjun Reddy), and MLA Ankaiah decide to put an end to this conflict between Shivayya and Tirupathi. Will they be able to resolve the issue? Why does Tirupathi against the rules set by Shivayya? Is there a connection between them, forms the crucial crux.
Analysis:
To date, we have seen Ajay Ghosh playing limited to supporting and negative roles in his career. In Rudramambapuram, he ventures into something different, playing the titular role of Tirupathi – a businessman and impresses with his decent performance, and he has also penned the script for this movie.
He is apt as a loyal person, and a loving father. Yet another standout performer in the movie is Rajasekhar Aningi, who is well-known to audiences as Subhodayam Subbarao. His subtle performance as a fisherflok is commendable.Arjun Reddy, who plays Seenayya, looks good on screen and gives his best. The remaining cast members are okay in their respective roles.
The scenes between the lead actors are watchable, and the flashback episode filled with decent emotions which are worth watching. One of the biggest drawback for Rudramambapuram is that it lacks a gripping screenplay. Story writer Ajay Ghosh takes a good narrative point, but it is the director and screenwriter Mahesh Bantu who turns the film into a boring affair with a lacklustre presentation. The story could have been narrated more effectively.
The first half is mostly filled by the flashback portion, which is required for the latter half proceeding but unlike the first half, the second half progresses slowly, becoming more tedious.The love story of Seenayya is unrealistic, and his character lacks depth. More development and space for performance could have been given. Heroine Prameela has very limited scope to perform.
Lack of a strong cast and an effective promotions also affect the film’s outcome. Apart from the lead actors, other actors are not too familiar to the audience.
Director Mahesh Bantu could have handled the film in a better way with greater care and concentration, making the film at least a passable fare. The story could have been told within 150 minutes, but it was stretched with unwanted and unnecessary scenes in both halves.Vengi’s music and Sudhakar Reddy’s cinematography are okay at best with more thought and effort, they could have enhanced the overall experience of Rudramambapuram. Editor Bonthala Nageswara Reddy is not upto mark as he could have trimmed several unnecessary scenes to reduce maintain continuity between certain sequences. Production values for limited budget movie are average.
Verdict:
To summerize, Rudramambapuram is a boring and tedious watch. Disappointing thing is that the screenplay comes a major defect for the film despite having a neat premise and a decent performance by Ajay Ghosh.The movie fails big-time in engaging the audience with its weak screenplay and presentation. The film has many unwanted scenes and not so familiar cast due to which the entire proceedings look diluted with unnecessary scenes. All we suggest is that to ignore this monotonous drama during this weekend and look for better options available on OTT space.
