Although government abolished the princely system in 1971, people's love and sentiment won over. Saif Ali Khan was acclaimed as the Nawab of Patautdi yesterday.

The B-town handsome was officially coroneted as the 10th Nawab of Pataudi in a ceremony at the family's Ibrahim Palace. The heads of nearly 52 villages presided over the ceremony where they tied a white turban around Saif's head, as a mark of Nawab. Saif's mother Sharmila Tagore, sisters - Soha and Saba and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda were present on the occasion.

Quoted Saif to media, "I don't intend to flaunt my title. I will carry on the responsibility and not get carried away by its charisma. I have to live up to my father's memory. I will carry on the work he started," the actor said, adding, "I don't have any political ambitions at all."

Saif's late father, Mansoor Ali Khan passed away on 22 Sept 2011. The legendary cricketer was the last of Nawab of Pataudi state and held the title till the government brought a stop in the system.

From now on Saif will take the responsibility of managing his father's estate, ancestral home and trust; besides continuing his several social works.
