As per latest reports, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, late J Jayalalithaa's aide V K Sasikala, who is currently serving a four year prison term in a Bengaluru prison, might be released from the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on January 27, 2021.

In reply to an RTI query regarding Sasikala's release, the Bengaluru Central Prison's Public Information Officer states that the convict Sasikala's probable release date is January 27, 2021 if she pays the in-default fine of Rs 10 crores, failing which she has to undergo the default of sentence of imprisonment and the release will get postponed to February 27, 2022.

The authorities have also said that Sasikala's release date might change if she utilises the parole facility. Sasikala has spent a total of 35 days injail in 1997 and 2014 and got a 17 day parole in 2017. Sasikala surrendered before the court in Karnataka on February 15, 2017 and had been imprisoned in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
