Shah Rukh Khan, who hit the jackpot with his latest hits "Jawan" and "Pathaan," has been given Y+ security cover for potential threats. As per the reports in the Indian Express, Maharashtra's security agencies have upgraded Shah Rukh Khan to the Y+ category because of specific "imminent and probable" threats they received about him. Mumbai police sources confirmed that there were some heightened threat perceptions surrounding him but did not elaborate on them further.
It has been learned that the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID) has ordered various police units in the state to give actor Shah Rukh Khan Y+ security and an escort team with immediate effect. This comes on the back of a recent high-level committee meeting where threats and security concerns for the Bollywood superstar were evaluated.
Under this enhanced security blanket, 11 persons would provide'security' to Shah Rukh Khan, including 6 commandos, 4 policemen, and a traffic clearance vehicle. These officers would man his residence in Mumbai, Mannat. The cost of his security cover will be borne by the actor, which has been put into place until further recommendations from the high-level committee and review committee decisions.
Reports have it that the successful releases of two recent blockbusters by Shah Rukh Khan, "Jawan" and "Pathaan," caused some perceived threats, which later on compelled the decision for his enhanced Y+ security. In view of this development, Special IGP VIP Security Dilip Sawant issued a notification seeking more protection during Shah Rukh Khan's visits and engagements in public places.
It could be noted that precisely in November 2022, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was also accorded the Y+ category after he alleged being threatened by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
