Popular producer K. E. Gnanavelraja's recent allegations against director Ameer has literally stirred a hornets nest in Tamil cinema. He had accused that during the making of the cult classic 'Paruthi Veeran', Ameer misappropriated funds allotted for the film. He had further alleged that he, actor Karthi and director Sudha Kongara watched Ameer's 'Ram' and Sudha said that the making was very poor while Karthi was in a dilemma whether to accept 'Paruthi Veeran'.
The statement caused a furore on social media with netizens slamming Sudha for the alleged demeaning of the critically acclaimed 'Ram' and its director. Sudha took to X to strongly clarify and wrote "Feb 2nd 2016. I got a call from Ameer Anna .I was driving outside Prasad Studios. I remember the exact moment because he was one of the first and few from the industry to call and praise me for Irudhi Suttru. I just told him one thing then, my Madhi is inspired by Muthazhugu. I went on and on about one of the greatest female characters written by a man!"
The National Award winner for 'Soorarai Pottru' added " I had made both the actresses who played Madhi and later Bommi watch Paruthiveeran as a reference . And THIS is my homage to a master film maker of Tamil cinema. This is all I have to say."
That sure sounds like one brilliant filmmaker admiring the other and hopefully will put to rest the negativity at least with regards to this aspect of the issue. Ameer is currently promoting his upcoming film 'Maayavalai' directed by Ramesh Krishnan and starring himself, Saran Sanchita Shetty, Vincent Ashokan and Dheena among others.
Sudha Kongara is awaiting the release of the Hindi version of 'Soorarai Pottru' produced by Suriya and starring Akshay Kumar in the lead. She is all set to direct Suriya again for his 43rd film that has music by GVP and costars include Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim and Vijay Varma.
