Superstar Rajnikanth and Director Shankar had joined hands for the third time after Sivaji and Endhiran, with 2.0, which was the sequel of Endhiran and the movie was released in November 2018, and the movie had created many box office records and became one of the biggest hits of the year.

Produced by Lyca Productions, 2.0 also starring Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar was released in Telugu and Hindi as well, and the team had been planning the movie's China release in a grand manner. The movie was planned to be released in the title Robot 2.0: Resurgence in China by HY Media.

However, reportedly HY Media is planning to stop the release of 2.0 in China, as their previous Indian release in China, the Akshay Kumar starrer Padman was not a commercial success, and besides, at the same time they had planned 2.0, Disney's The Lion King is also releasing.
