The Tamil Nadu government has just made the announcement that the state's current lockdown will be prolonged by one week till June 28 and that a few additional relaxations will be effected. The districts have been split into three levels by the authorities: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. Tier 1 will include 11 districts where no new lockdown relaxations will be permitted owing to the large COVID-19 workload. Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai are among the districts.

Tier 2 includes 23 districts that have received greater leniency. Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, and Kallakurichi are among those while in Tier 3, areas with additional relaxations are Chennai, Tiruvalur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpet where there is a steady decline of new COVID 19 cases.

The Tamil film industry has received a huge boost in the arm, as the state government has decided to permit film and television shoots to resume with a limit of 100 people in attendance. It is mandatory for all artists and crew members to do RT-PCR testing. prior to participating in shoots.

Pre and post-production works have also been permitted starting tomorrow the 21st of June. This means that many biggies including 'Thalapathy 65', 'Thala Ajith's 'Valimai', 'Suriya 40' and 'Chiyaan 60' which have been stalled due to the pandemic will resume in the coming weeks

Though theaters have not been allowed to reopen a caveat has been announced that once every week maintenance work can be done on the premises.
