Ever since it was officially announced by Sun Pictures, Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Thalaivar 171' is constantly in the headlines of all entertainment media. The film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has music by Anirudh with Anbariv handling the stunts.

Lokesh delivered the rupees six hundred crores blockbuster hit 'Leo' starring Thalapathy Vijay recently in spite of mixed reviews. In his recent public appearance he revealed that he will start writing the script for 'Thalaivar 171' by th month end and the project will go on floors from April 2024.

There have been wild speculations about the casting in 'Thalaivar 171' with names such as Sivakarthikeyan and Raghava Lawrence said to be under consideration. Likewise there was a buzz that Megastar Mammootty will be playing a parallel lead in the film. This gave rise to fresh speculations that the story of the film could be a continuation of Mani Ratnam's 'Thalapathy' that had Rajini and Mammootty as gangsters.

It is worth mentioning that Lokesh Kanagaraj wrote 'Vikram' (2023) with Kamal Haasan's character continuing from his 1986 blockbuster hit of the same name. It is said that he might use the same technique with Rajini's 'Thalapathy' too.

Mammootty during the promotions of his new movie 'Kathal The Core' costarring Jyothikha has denied that the 'Thalaivaar 171' approached him. He however added that if he is approached and it is a suitable character he is ready to reunite with Rajini. Well, fans will surely celebrate it like never before if these two long standing legends of Indian cinema come together in the same frame again.
