The hill shrine temple of Lord Venkateshwara in Thirumala issues ‘Laddu’ as Prasadam every day is now comes under the Food Safety Act.

The TTD has so far argued that it does not come under the Act. Under the Right to Information Act Bengalurean T Narasimha Murthy has filed a case on June 28, 2016 questioning this lapse.

Thirupathi Laddu preparation is not in right way – Hand glows are not applied, the sweat collects to the Laddu, the cases of iron bolt, nut, and key chains in Laddus were brought to the notice in the argument.

As a result of that the ‘Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’ (FSSAI) passed a verdict and brought the Thirupathi Laddu under the Act.

Applying under the FSSAI of Chennai center, 45 ton of Laddu by TTD gets a permission letter from last August 3. The TTD has remitted Rs7500 as license fee. For preparation of 20 tons of food also the FSSAI has given permission.

The TTD was under the opinion that ‘Laddu’ is not goods or Food. So there is no need to come under FSSAI it said. FSSAI on the other hand strongly argued that TTD should follow the guidelines as it concerns devotees in large numbers. It had also instructed the Andhra Pradesh Food Safety controller to make a follow up. A notice for not following was issued to TTD. After three letters the TTD has come to the track. According to FSSAI Act section 3(1) (1) without license food is distributed would yield to six months imprisonment and Rs.5 lakh penal fee.

With the policy application in TTD Laddus, the date of preparation, expiry date, contents used will be displayed.
