Playing Bharat in 'Bharat Ane Nenu' was not just about doing something for mere entertainment.  As far as Mahesh Babu is concerned, it was needed because of three reasons.

Speaking to a national daily, the superstar says that there is a need for a "national conscience, social sensitivity and a certain amount of strength to speak" in us all.  And Koratala Siva's character is about these aspects.

In the same interview, he doesn't rule out trying something new related to cinema.  It's direction, the most difficult craft in which some of his contemporaries, especially Pawan Kalyan, have failed very badly!  "It's not going to happen anytime soon.  Getting into direction might happen much later," Mahesh tells the interviewer.  Whoa!
