We are into August and Telugu cinema has had a mixed experience in the domestic market. There have been unexpected hits like 'Major' and unreal flops like 'Acharya'.

How about the US territory, where box-office collections are tracked methodically? As per a trade analyst based in the US, there have been only four clear hits from Tollywood so far in 2022. SS Rajamouli-directed 'Roudram Ranam Rudhiram', 'DJ Tillu', 'Major', and 'Bheemla Nayak' are the ones.

If 'RRR' and 'Bheemla Nayak' are big-ticket films, the rest two worked purely because of content. Pawan Kalyan's film becoming a hit despite it being a remake is a testament to his superstardom. Adivi Sesh has cemented his position overseas, while Siddhu Jonnalagadda is thriving, too.

Unexpectedly, films like Mahesh Babu's 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata', the comedy entertainer 'F3', Akkineni Nagarjuna-Naga Chaitanya's 'Bangarraju', Vishwak Sen's 'Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam', among others, don't seem to have been unqualified hits. They did well in different degrees in the domestic market.

The biggest duds in the US must be Prabhas' 'Radhe Shyam' and Chiranjeevi-Ram Charan's 'Acharya' in terms of the quantum of losses they made.
