The music of Traffic Signal is a decent assortment of songs you've heard before (six songs), five new numbers, a remix and a version of one of the other numbers. Music director Shamir Tandon is in fine form in Hariharan propelled Yeh Zindagi Hai To Kya Zindagi Hai and Bhupinder Singh's version of Na Jis Din Teri Meri Baat Hoti Hai. The Spirit of Signal tries to be different. But it's not. Theme music ought to be special. Which this is not! Flute tries to gel with bass guitars while female chorus vocals slug it out too. Rhythm designing is the only impressive thing about this two minute something instrumental. Raju Singh could have delved deeper in the subject, something that he did to good effect in Bhandarkar's `Chandni Bar'.
Yeh Zindagi Hai To Kya Zindagi Hai has a tinge of a ghazal coupled with the mellow bluesy flavour. Hariharan, as expected, pours his heart out and it's simply fabulous to savour his juicy vocals. The inebriated scatting in the middle and the electric guitar piece add dollars to the whole attitude of this song that asks the strange plight of `Life' (personification) that goes through so many ups and downs. Sangeet Haldipur's young voice is rejuvenating too. A lovely number.
Na Jis Din Teri Meri Baat Hoti Hai is a decent song. And it's made better by Kunal Ganjawala's emotions-ripe voice. Yogita Pathak renders her part well too. Apart from that it's your regular romantic song that's worth a listening. Nothing more. There's another version of the same song by Bhupinder Singh. It's slightly on the slower side but one must say, Bhupinder's deep thick voice effortlessly strikes a spell on you. If you're in love and missing that special person, this version shall act as a wonderful balm for your wounds.
Aaika Dajiba girl Vaishali Samant belts out Aai Ga, a song having your typical Dhagala Lagla Kada Marathi Manus feel. The tabla, dholak, combo with loads of whistling and animated chorus voices try-n-make a festive noise. But the end result isn't all that exciting. Yes, it does have a massy feel but albeit with a limited appeal. Moreover, Bhavika's screechy voice is a deterrent too.
Aai Ga Remix by DJ Amelon & Salil Amrute blatantly talks about shaking it up. Alright it's fine for the dance floor on a dance party at Gorai beach. But basically it's nothing but add-on jhankaar beats that you are made to suffer on an overzealous autorickshaw driver's Mercedes.
Title track Signal Pe has an assorted list of singers like Vinod Rathod, Baba Sehgal, Neerja Pandit. Raj Pandit and Laughter Champion contestant Navin Prabhakar (The pehchan kaun dude). The song talks about the relevance of traffic signal in everyday life with loads of situational sounds and not-so-happening composition. Maybe the best part is a eunuch's voice with the Salman hangover. The aural experience is average. Maybe it might be a different experience with the visuals.
