Story

Simha Koduri portrays Surya, a carefree young man who purchases his inaugural bike, affectionately naming it Ustaad. Gradually, he develops feelings for Meghana, played by Kavya Kalyanram. However, a minor issue in their love story takes a transformative turn in Surya's life. His bike evolves into a wellspring of motivation, propelling him to strive for his lofty aspiration of becoming a pilot. "Ustaad" narrates the unfolding of this journey

Analysis

"Ustaad" presents a decent story. It's about a young underdog who wants to become a pilot with the help of his beloved bike. The mix of drama, humor, and romance is refreshing, but the screenplay falls short. The storytelling is decent, and the way the young protagonist draws inspiration from his bike is portrayed well. But the flow of the story doesn't captivate the audience.

Simha Koduri's growth as an actor is noticeable. His acting has improved notably compared to his earlier films. His portrayal of a character across three different age phases is commendable. Kavya Kalyanram's performance brings depth to the film, and her chemistry with Simha is also noteworthy. Gautam Menon's significant role is well-executed, whereas the other supporting cast members deliver average performances.

The editing could use some enhancements, given the movie's slow pacing and delayed engagement. On a positive note, the camera work and scenic locations hold appeal, alongside commendable production values. The bike's design and the general setting are also well-handled. However, the music by Akeeva B lacks impact, and the background score doesn't align effectively with the storytelling.

The film has some good moments but to enjoy them one has to sit through the length of the film which today's youngsters do not have at all. In a way, the film has been made on a decent note but there is nothing novel that has been showcased here.

Verdict

Ustaad is Sri Simha Koduri's best film to date and he has delivered a very good performance. But the pace of the film is very slow and tests our patience at times. So, watch the film keeping this aspect in mind and also the routine storyline. If you are okay with all this, give Ustaad a shot.
