Vadivelu one of the greatest comedians to ever grace the Tamil screens has a large fan following in spite of his films not performing to the mark in the past decade or so. After a hiatus of several years he was banking on 'Naai Sekhar Returns' to catupult him back to the top.

'Naai Sekhar Returns' released on 9th December to negative reviews from both critics and audiences and the film sank without a trace at the box office. The film directed by Suraaj had unimaginative writiing and execution and was shockingly unfunny.

It is now whispered in the industry circles that Vadivelu has decided not to play lead roles in the future and instead has plans to star in supporting roles with other heroes. He is already playing a powerful father character in the upcoming 'Maamannan' directed by Mari Selvaraj and costarring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh and Fahadh Faasil.

It remains to be seen if the new age writers and directors can write special characters for Vadivelu to make him shine once again as the undisputed king of Tamil comedy. It is said that 'Chandramukhi 2' directed by P. Vasu and starring Raghava Lawrence and Kangana Ranaut will once again be an acid test for the Vaigai Puyal since he is playing and out and out supporting comedy role.
