Victoria, Australia, pulled out of having the 2026 Commonwealth Games because of cost issues. This means that organizers need to look for a new venue to hold the games. The costs were first expected to be $2 billion, but they ended up at $7 billion, which made them an issue.

Premier Daniel Andrews was worried about taking money from other programmes to make up the difference. He also said that a price tag of over $6 billion for a 12-day event was too costly. Instead, the money will go towards getting sports centers into better shape and building more social and low-cost housing.

After Victoria pulled out, New South Wales and Perth announced that they wouldn’t host either because the money wasn’t there. Even though the future is fuzzy, the Commonwealth Games Federation is still going hard in looking for a new host, considering the fact that the Games have always been able to find willing cities quickly. For instance, Birmingham stepped in and held the 2022 Games after it looked like Durban was having problems holding it.

As things change, so does their search for a host city, where the federation is eager to reach a solution that helps athletes and the Commonwealth Sport Movement.
