Popular producers condemn media behaviour at Vijay Antony daughter Meeras funeral

The South Indian film industry is yet to recover from the shocking death by suicide of leading actor and music composer Vijay Antony's seventeen year old daughter Meera. The standard twelve student hung herself in her room in Chennai due to alleged stress for unknown reasons.

Meera's mortal remains were laid to rest at a cemetry in the city after a church service on September 20th a day after the unfortunate incident. Netizens and the public have condemned the way the media invaded on the privacy of the Vijay Antony family by even forcing their cameras into the church and the cemetry. The live minute by minute commentary also was not tolerated by most people apart from the traffic jams that were created thanks to the camera hounds.

Popular producer SR Prabhu said on his social media that the media is acting excessively in the tragedy of celebrities. He further said: "Whatever happens in the life of a celebrity, good or bad, it is the media that highlights them. However, when tragic things happen in one's life, the basic knowledge and duty of how to handle them is a very important responsibility of journalists. The behavior of some media in the recent two tragedies is completely wrong and unethical. For that, I record here my strong condemnation and my request to avoid such a trend!".

Similarly 'Maanaadu' producer Suresh Kamachi has also condemned the behaviour of the media in general in handling Meera's tragic death. He requested them not to continue inflicting pain on the bereaved family.

Director C.S. Amudhan a close college friend of Vijay Antony and the director of his upcoming movie 'Ratham' wrote on X "Show some respect you heartless animals. No man should have to bury his child & yet more no man should have to bury his child while pleading with people to leave him alone."
