Is this Vijay Sethupathis strong decision in 2023? - Friends shocked

Vijay Sethupathi, one of the busiest leading stars in pan Indian cinema had mixed fortunes in 2022. He produced and starred in the critically acclaimed 'Kadaisi Vivasayi' which however did not ring in the cash registers. Though his 'Maamanithan' directed by Seenu Ramaswamy received unfavourable reviews the film has fetched him a few awards.

VJS then tasted box office success with 'Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal' directed by Vignesh Shivan in which he romanced two top heroines Nayanthara and Samantha. Then came the monster hit 'Vikram' directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj in which he held his own against the two acting powerhouses Fahadh Faasil and Kamal Haasan. His first full fledged Malayalam film in a lead role '19(1)(a)' starring Nithya Menen in the lead went largely unnoticed.

However the Makkal Selvan rounded off the year by delivering 'DSP',one of his lowest rated films that also found its way to the record books as his biggest box office dud as well.

Though fans and the industry are unanimous in praising Vijay Sethupathi as a human being, an actor and a star he is often criticised for starring in villain roles and supporting characters. Most often he does that to help friends out or since he cannot refuse when someone asks for his help. This attitude according to trade analysts has made him too familiar to audiences and thats why his films nowadays cannot manage big openings.

It is now said that Vijay Sethupathi's most important resolution for New Year 2023 is to completely stop acting in cameo roles. He has reportedly decided to take on negative roles only if the character is highly changing. Sources say he has planned to act only in three movie a year in Tamil and another one in other languages. The news of this strong decision by the much loved star has shocked his friends who planned to cast him in small roles but will surely give immense joy to fans.

Vijay Sethupathi's upcoming films in the first half of the year are 'Michael' costarring Sundeep Kishan releasing on February 3rd, 'Farzi' (Web Series) directed by Raj and DK on February 10th, 'Pisaasu 2' directed by Mysskin, 'Viduthalai' directed by Vetrimaaran on March 31st, 'Jawan' starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Altee hitting the screens on June 2nd and 'Viduthalai 2' slated for release in July. His Hindi films 'Merry Christmas' and 'Gandhi Talks' are also expected in the second half.
