What is it all about?

This no brainer is a fafada time of crazy goofy mindless fun. 'Welcome To Karachi' is an odd mix of buffoonery with a tang of reality.

Director Ashish R Mohan and writer Vrijesh Hirjee makes this political satire watchable with its wild fun that doesn,t leaves the turf that sees strong support from the pleasantly comic Arshad Warshi and enjoyable Jackky.

The Story

Kushal Ved Bakshi and director Ashish R. Mohan script this novel story idea by actor turned writer Vrajesh Hirjee.

Shammi (Arshad Warsi) and Kedar Patel (Jackky Bhagnani) are the apna desi dumb and dumber and best buddies.

Kedar is typical guju from Jamnagar who wants to go the America and finds his visa getting rejected repeatedly.. all his attempts to bribe, change surnames from Patel to Desai only multiplies his frustration. Shammi is an outspoken navy officer dismissed due to his uncontrollable tongue.

Both the dhokla fafada loving veg gujarati and kabab fanatic Shammi accidently land into Karachi in their attempt to sneak into USA on Kedar ‘s father played by Dilip Tahil’s boat as his father gives cruise on hire for private functions and parties.

What follows is a funny ride of Shammi and Kedar around Pakistan in their attempt to come back to India.

What to look out for

It’s a good goofy tamasha puri that celebrates buffoonery and in the process strikes a serious comment here and there. Some spark of novelty in gangs are noticed.

The Pakistani parliament scene stands out tall amongst them. Ashish R Mohan narration as mentioned earlier doesn,t changes the turf and is loyal to the genre. The humor is situational, political and dialogues are witty.

The bromance between Arshad and Jackky is terrific. Both complement each other wonderfully and its sheer fun to see them together.

Arshad credentials as a comedian are well known.. Munna Bhai series, Ishqia.. and here also he is just brilliant.

Jackky Bhagnan is wonderful and surprises with his much improved and spontaneous comic timings.. he is able to put a constant smile on the audience face.

The Pakistani actors Ayub Khoso and Adnan Shah are a delight.

What not

Those who hate buffoonery and such comedies will say WTF..this political satire is novel but it lacks the maddens and brilliance of similar genre films like Tere Bin Laden...post interval it loses some steam. Music has nothing to hum about. The special effects are tacky.  Sadly Lauren Gottlieb is reduced to just a show piece.

Conclusion: 'Welcome To Karachi' is a crazy goofy mindless fun having Arshad and Jackky posting similes on the audience face. If you love no brainers. WTC is your ticket.
