Zack Snyder, gearing up for Netflix's Rebel Moon release on Dec. 22, remains bustling with new projects despite the busy schedule. One such project, Blood and Ashes, initially conceived as a sequel to 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire, took an unexpected turn.

While initially considered a 300 sequel, Snyder transformed Blood and Ashes into a tale centering on the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second-in-command, Hephaestion. It unfolded as a gripping ancient Greek war epic entwined with a gay love story. However, Warner Bros., amid strained relations post-Snyder's departure following Justice League, didn’t greenlight the project.

Recently, Snyder revealed that he and his producing partner, Deborah Snyder, reclaimed the rights to Blood and Ashes from the studio, opening up the possibility to shop it around elsewhere. In an interview with THR, Snyder acknowledged the film’s unique, highly provocative nature, dubbing it "incredibly homoerotic, super violent, super sexual."

While Blood and Ashes gets a potential second chance, Snyder confirmed that an adaptation of Howard Chaykin's controversial comic Black Kiss won't be realized. Despite attempting a TV series adaptation, the project, known for its controversial content featuring religious themes, violence, sex, and vampires, failed to find traction due to its offbeat nature.

Under his banner, Stone Quarry, in collaboration with Netflix, Snyder commits to producing original content, signifying a future filled with fresh, unique narratives for the streaming platform.
