Zomato CEO Thrilled : Delivery Partners Get Surprise on New Year

On New Year's Eve, numerous food and grocery delivery platforms experienced an unprecedented surge in single-day orders, setting new records as Indians celebrated at home with their loved ones. CEOs of popular food delivery apps such as Swiggy and Zomato shared compelling statistics, showcasing the remarkable increase in orders that surpassed previous years' benchmarks. Additionally, these companies provided insights into the specific items users chose to welcome the year 2024.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal highlighted a particularly noteworthy statistic, revealing that on New Year's Eve, Indians generously tipped delivery partners, accumulating an impressive ₹97 lakh. Expressing gratitude, Goyal stated, ''Love you, India! You've tipped over ₹97 lakhs till now to the delivery partners serving you tonight.''

The enthusiastic response from users on social media demonstrated the positive sentiment towards the delivery partners. One user expressed curiosity about India's tipping behavior, seeking details on the average per-order tip and its percentage relative to the order value. Others expressed appreciation, happiness, and optimism, emphasizing the significance of recognizing and rewarding the efforts of delivery partners.

Responding to the overwhelming support, Goyal shared that Zomato delivered nearly as many orders on New Year's Eve 2023 as it did on the combined New Year's Eves from 2015 to 2020. He further added, ''Fun fact: We've delivered almost as many orders on NYE 23 as we did on NYE 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 combined. Excited about the future!"

In a behind-the-scenes glimpse, Goyal showcased Zomato's "war room" as it prepared for the exceptional order load on New Year's Eve. The CEO highlighted the historical significance of the event, noting that the number of orders delivered on New Year's Eve 2022 surpassed the total from the first three years of Zomato's delivery service. The record-breaking trend continued in 2023, with Zomato delivering almost as many orders in that single night as it did in the six previous New Year's Eves combined.

Goyal also shared statistics about the extensive reach of Zomato and Blinkit, revealing that over 3.2 lakh delivery partners across both platforms served India on New Year's Eve. These partners received over Rs 98 lakh in tips from users. Notable anecdotes included Bengaluru leading in event bookings and table reservations, a user from Kolkata placing an impressive order of 125 items, and a staggering 8,422 orders being placed at 8:06 PM on December 31, 2023.

The culmination of these extraordinary achievements was complemented by the acknowledgment from Albinder Dhindsa, co-founder and CEO of Blinkit, who confirmed that the platform logged its highest-ever orders in a day, along with a peak in orders per minute.
