Lahari Vs 'Myna'

IndiaGlitz [Monday, February 18, 2013]

Kannada film 'Myna' based on the real life story from top cop BB Ashok Kumar in the direction of Nagashekhar is caught in Copy Right Act.

Not for the contents but for using Rashtrakavi G S Shivarudrappa poem 'Kanada Kadalige Hambalisuthide Mana....a song composed Dr C Ashwath twenty years and that is richly popular among the listeners of light music. The song right belongs to Lahari Recording Company.

For using the song throughout the film by 'Myna' director Nagashekhar the strong objection has come for the violation of Copy Right Act.

Lahari Recording Company with over three decades of stint in music field also partner today to Public TV has asked for compensation of Rs.5 lakhs.

The revised Copy Right Act supports the audio house that owns the song and the composer and writers do not have the right to exercise control. Lahari Recording Company is right in its way. Nagashekhar already troubling the producer NS Rajakumar by a few crores on 'Myna' project has further added trouble.

Lahari Recording Velu (Thulsiram Naidu) speaking to this correspondent said the issue is before the Kannada Film Producers Association. In case the compensation is not given we will not allow the film to release says Velu.

The point Lahari Recording Company makes at this point is that if one is allowed to do follow the plagiarism others would follow quoting this case.
