You are coming back to Kannada after two years?
After 'Bhagwan' in Kannada a box office hit film in Telugu version also for producer Sa.Ra.Govindu I am in two films 'Rakshaka' and 'Kaivara Sri Thataiah'.
It seems you have accepted a new challenge?
Yes. One is my image and another the respected 'Thataiah' role is a challenge for. Kaivara Thataiah the Kalagnani role I am doing is so apt for me because the philosopher and forecaster Thataiah had written in Kannada and Telugu languages. The chance of it clicking at the box office in Andhra Pradesh is very strong. Hamsalekhaji has done tremendous job.
It seems you are devotee of Kaivara Thataiah?
You are right. My mother who recently passed was from Bagepalli. She was the staunch follower. When she was ill I got this offer and I accepted it.
You did some 'Vrath' for this particular role?
One has to do to do justice to the role. For 50 days I took little food and shrink my physical appearance. Very rarely we get opportunities to indulge in such preparations.
What do you do in 'Rakshaka'?
I am not a super hero. I play the role of ACP. The intelligent play is very good here and it is so realistic. The backdrop is very good and Manohar the cameraman has done very good job. The missing out of things on screen creates excitement in the minds of audience. Accidentally incidents take place. Because of my mother's death I could not make it for the shoot for some days. I have suggested the remaining portion of shoot in Bangalore palace as the environment is very near to the Kollegal and Dodda Sampige surroundings. But producers are keen on finishing the project at the natural places.
You have played a role in Tamil films also?
In Tamil I played a villain in Adhi. The role is that of a politician. The journalist wants to change the society and there is tug of war between my role and journalist. I am also doing Kannan Peta very soon.
You keep shifting your loyalties……
My loyalty to Kannada and Karnataka is intact. Wherever I go I talk about this language. Karnataka has given me breath. Films like Police story and Agni IPS given me live long in this profession. I never went from Kannada to other language. It all just happened as the offers lined up. In my 100 plus films I have done more Kannada films. I am so inclined to this state because my mother hails from Bagepalli. She died recently and I came to Triveni Sangama and immersed the urns of my mother.
You are planning to appear in Police story Part II?
Yes. Thriller Manju and J.G.Krishna are working out on the sequel to Police Story. I have a film for Honeymoon Express producer S.V.Babu, Shanthakumar, Ramu, then again for 'Rakshaka' producers.
