Stars plan protest
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, October 06, 2009]

South Indian Film Artistes Association president R Sarath Kumar on Monday said a meeting seeking action against a Tamil daily, which published a report on Sunday implicating several actresses as involved in sex work, will be held Wednesday.

He said a complaint would be filed against the newspaper in the Press Council of India besides filing defamatory suites in Court. “We will also approach Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who is the senior most member of the film industry,” he said.

Earlier, several actors called on City Police Commissioner T Rajendran to complaint against vernacular daily. “The Commissioner said he would hold discussions with legal experts on what could be done in this issue,” Sarath said.

“The meeting on Wednesday will also decide on the future course of action. It is not right on the part of the daily to seek apology after publishing such objectionable material. The report has affected families of several artistes,” he said. Sarath was accompanied to the Commissionerate by Radha Ravi, Vijayakumar, S Ve Shekher, Murali, Sri Priya, Manjula Vijayakumar, Kuyili, Nalini, Anju, ‘Pasi’ Sathya, Seetha and Fathima Babu among others.
