Indians can now enjoy a speedy immigration process when entering the US, as India has joined the International Expedited Traveler Initiative (Global Entry Program).

In the joint statement issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump after their meeting, the US president said that Indians and Indian-Americans have greatly contributed to both countries in terms of business and innovation, and welcomed India`s entry into this programme.

This programme allows low-risk` travellers of select countries to get fast clearance upon arrival in the US. Automatic kiosks have been set up at select airports for this purpose and the machines will direct travellers to baggage claim after reading their passport or US permanent resident card.

Travellers will be pre-approved for this programme and will undergo a rigorous background check.
