Although it had the best possible package - Mani Ratnam, AR Rahman, Rajiv Menon, many other stalwarts and two fresh faces - it failed to make it big in the box office. Now that this has incurred havy losses totalling up to 16 crore rupees, Mannan Films has only one person to point fingers at - Mani Ratnam. The distribution house filed a complaint with the city police, against the director, for the heavy losses incurred. Meanwhile, a petition was filed at Abhiramapuram police station, on behalf of Mani Ratnam, seeking protection for his house. The director, who is in Kodaikanal at the moment, issued a press release that said that Madras Talkies cannot take any responsibility for the losses, as the movie had already been turned over to Gemini Film Circuit.

The judge advocating this issue has confirmed protection to the director's office and house. Also, he has made arrangements and spoken to the commissioner of police, to offer Mani Ratnam, personal police protection.
