Nivin Pauly as Kayamkulam Kochunni!

The noble hearted highway man`s story is retold again by Roshan Adrews and Bobby Sanjay team. This is the second time that the story of Kayamkulam Kochunni is told in Mollywood. In 1966 a film of the same title was released. It was directed by P.A. Thomas and the character of the Kochunni was essayed by veteran thespian late Sathyan.

This time Nivin Pauly dons the role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Malayalam film industry is rich with ample legend characters including Thatcholi Ambu, Thatcholi Othenan, Pazhassi Raja etc and this will one more to the legacy of such films.According to the director Nivin Pauly was picked from the young clan of actors of the present genre to emote the character because of his peculiar body language that can embody transformation of age. Different stages of the character have to be portrayed and Nivin fits the bill.

He also added that their next project after Kayamkulam Kochunni is also a big budget movie in the backdrop of sea and that will also have Nivin in the lead role. The film is based on the Latin Catholic community of Kerala and Kappiri myth associated with the community will also fall in the ambit of the movie Kayamkulam Kochunni will have around 6 to 7 action scenes and that will be handled by a team from South Africa. Majority of the scenes of the movie will be shot in Srilanka and actors from there will also be included in the film. They will conduct Star Hunt` for actors in Kerala and Srilanka and pick the best that suits the characters in this film.
