Pittagoda Review

Director Anudeep's film releases today.  Here is our review.

Story:

Tippu (Vishwadev) is a happy-go-lucky youth who wiles away time gossiping with his like-minded friends.  The 'pittagoda' they see as their adda is the site of their jiving and all.

Divya (Punarnavi) and family shift to Godavari khani, and this is when Tippu gets close to her.  It's love, but Divya rejects the proposal.

There is a reason why she does that and it's time to know her flashback.

The crux lies in who made a proposal to Divya in the past, what happened to him, who is that who wants to defame Divya, what Tippu does by coming to know of her story, how all of this is interspersed with the counterfeit mafia.

Analysis:

With the backing of a producer like D Suresh Babu, 'Pittagoda' surely had positive vibes going for it.  Importantly, the title smells of nostalgia.

The director gets on board a good casting, especially Vishwadev and Punarnavi.  The lead pair put up a realistic performance here.  The interval twist is one of the assets.

Probably because of the over reliance on feel-good features, the writer treated the villainy with a stepmotherly attitude.  The climax, as a logical corollary, peters out.  The pace is sluggish, what with the crime angle making do with simplistic screenplay.  The way challenges are overpowered needed a more fleshed out treatment.

You have to give it to the writer for portraying the mindsets in a genuine way.  However, the weakening of the villainy is inexplicable and lazy.  The makers apparently banked on the slice-of-life moments stuffed in the first half.

If Kamlakhar's music is enjoyable, Nagesh's cinematography is a plus, too.

Verdict:

Pittagoda comes with doses of deft writing, but it has its misses.  Fraught with simple-mindedness, the film throws up impressive performances.
