Queen Elizabeth`s income is set to double to cover the repair work on the Buckingham Palace.

The Queen sovereign grant was 10% of the profits from Crown Estate, which owns most of Regent Street as well as several acres of farmland, forests and coastline. The government announced in November last year that the Queen would now receive 25% of the profits. As Crown Estate made Rs. 2,719 crore last year – an 8% increase from the previous year – the Queen will receive Rs. 678 crore, double what she received last year.

The government decided on the rise to fund the refurbishment of the Buckingham Palace, including work on the electrical and plumbing systems. The repair works are estimated to take 10 years. These details were released after reports surfaced that the taxpayer`s money was going towards a very privileged lifestyle for the royal family.
