The bold and thinking actress of Mollywood, Shwetha Menon who recently got a state award for her performance as Cheeru in ‘Palery Manickyam’ is all set to play the role of 'Rathi' in the remake of 'Rathinirvedam'.

The controversial original by Bharathan which told about the obsessive love of an adolescent for a older woman, had Krishnachandran and Jayabharathi in the lead. The portrayal of 'Rathychechi' by Jayabharathy is often cited as her sensuous best.

The new 'Rathinirvedam' remake will be directed by T.K.Rajeevkumar. The movie will be produced by Suresh Kumar of Revathy Kalamandhir, who has recently started the trend of remakes in Malayalam with the recent hit 'Neelathamara' in the script of M T Vasudevan Nair.

It is interesting to remember that Shwetha Menon had earlier landed into a controversy, when she alleged that the makers of Avalude Raavukal-2, had announced her name in the cast list without consulting her. She was then reluctant to be in a role that grabbed controversial headlines in the eighties.

But it is of surprise to most in the industry about how Shwetha agreed to be on 'Rathinirvedam' remake when she resisted the role in 'Avalude Raavukal-2'. Somehow, the filmmakers also matters, isn’t it?
