Ties between superpowers China and US seem to be in a not-so-good state as the US delivered blow after blow, albeit cushioned.

The cordial relations between US President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have taken a hit after the US imposed sanctions on a Chinese bank for doing business with North Korea, declared China as one of the worst human traffickers in the world and concluded a $1.4 billion arms sale to Taiwan.

Trump had recently tweeted thanking China for having “tried” to restrain North Korea, but that it was not enough.

It is yet to seen what impact this will have on the increased tolerance that the US showed towards China in the last few months, including the South China Sea.
