The hype and hoopla around Businessman and Bodyguard has had its effect on the Chennai market. The result is that the Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh starrers have opened to never-seen-before collections (though not more than Dookudu's) in the city. "This is despite competition from Kollywood biggies like Nanban (Shankar's film) and Vettai (Madhavan-Arya starrer). The trend clearly shows that the audience for Telugu films in Chennai has tremendously increased," the manager of a cinema hall in a northern suburb of Chennai was quoted as saying.

Interestingly, both 'Businessman' and 'Bodyguard' have been distributed in Tamil Nadu by Studio Green run by Gnanavelraja, who is a close relative to Suriya and Karthi. While Businessman owes its popularity to the charming presence of Mahesh, 'Bodyguard' is touted as a remake of Vijay's 'Kaavalan'.

While 'Businessman' which has Mahesh Babu and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles has hit a whopping number of 14 theatres in Chennai, 'Bodyguard', Venkatesh-Trisha starrer, is being screened at eight screens, including top multiplexes.

The winsome position which the two Telugu films have come to occupy is definitely a boost to our producers. So far, Telugu films have enjoyed a wide market in Karnataka alone. Getting foothold in Chennai was beyond the imagination of our producers, despite the presence of many Teluguites there, for the simple reason because they did not find anything novel in our films. However, the two B-films of Tollywood have held their own amidst competition from a Vijay-starrer and a multi-starrer. Great!
