He says many directors reside in him and their influences can be seen in his work.

Well, Venkat Kuchipudi, the director in question, is not your every-day maker of masala films.

He is a director with a thinking brain. He is a director who wants to give commercial entertainment with class and conviction.

He is neither too artistic nor too lowbrow. He straddles an in-between world that most of us are comfortable with.

Venkat’s undoubted skills came to the fore in Modati Cinema.

The film had everything that Venkat likes --- good music, clean comedy, a sense of adventure, classy visuals, new locales (Sikkim) and quiet romance.

All of them may seem slightly urban-centric ideas, but Venkat says these are universal views of good cinema.

Having gone from an internet background, Venkat understands that speed is of essence these days. With low boredom threshold, things have to happen very fats on screen.

Things are indeed happening fast in his life too as offers are pouring his way after Modati Cinema.

Yet, Venkat is prepared to wait till he zeroes in on the kind of script that will appeal to him. ‘I wrote the script and waited for four years to make it into a film. I do not believe in writing scripts to suit the actors.’

His conviction is what matters.
