3 Idiots inspiration Sonam Wangchuk tells Indians why we should boycott China

Sonam Wangchuk, the famous engineer-turned-education reformist, is in the news more than ten years after he inspired Aamir Khan's character in the blockbuster Bollywood movie '3 Idiots'. Recently, Wangchuk said that Indians should respond to China with their wallets while the Indian Army does so with bullets. The innovator made this comment in the context of China's alleged ingress into the Indian side of the LAC in recent days.

Speaking to India Today, Wangchuk commented that it is entirely practical to boycott Chinese goods. "This is not hatred. For decades, China has been exploiting bonded labourers, besides oppressing its people," he added.

How can Indians answer China with their wallet? Is it practical at all? "It is for Indians to decide the pros and cons of doing an economic boycott of China. If Jains were to be told that it is not possible to get onion-free or veg food, will they start eating non-veg? No. They will stick to their principles. In years, Jain restaurants will come up to cater to their demand. That's how an ecosystem will fill up the gap. Customer is the king," he said, suggesting that we have to make sacrifices and create an ecosystem of their own instead of depending on Chinese products.
