54th National Film Awards announced

'Lage Raho Munnabhai' has won the four awards at the 54th national film awards announced today. The blockbuster movie got the award for the best popular film, best screenplay written by Abhijat Joshi, Raj Kumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra and the best lyrics which were created by Swanand Kirkire for the song "Bande Mein Tha Dum".

Dilip Prabhavalkar bagged the best supporting actor award for his portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' and for the Marathi film 'Shevri'.

Madhur Bhandarkar received his second national award for the best director for the film 'Traffic Signal'. Konkana Sen Sharma was selected as the best supporting actress award for the film 'Omkara'.

Vishal Bhardwaj got a special jury award for direction. Gotham Ghose was chosen as the best cinematographer for his work in 'Yatra'.

Soumitra Chatterjee won the national award for the best actor for the Bengali film 'Podokkhep'. The best actress award went to Priyamani for her performance in the super hit Tamil film 'Paruthi Veeran'.

The Malayalam feature film 'Pulijanmam' directed by Priyanandan got the best feature film award.

'Kabul Express' the Hindi film directed by Kabir Khan and the Malayalam film 'Eakantham' directed by Madhu Kaithapuram shared the Indira Gandhi Award for the best first film of a Director.
