A protest was carried outside the main campus of Chennai’s Anna University and several affiliated colleges earlier today against the current arrear system set up by the institution.

The university implemented the choice-based credit system (CBCS) in 2017 which allows the students to reappear for a failed paper in a semester only in the subsequent year, which was not the case prior to 2017 when the students could take up the arrear exams in the following semester itself. The final year students have claimed that the rule has affected their job opportunities, and in turn their career prospects since they would have to waste an entire year before retaking the exams.

The VC of Anna University has reportedly said that the council decided to make leeway for the 7th semester students alone who would be allowed to retake the failed papers along with their final semester exams. A decision on the prospect of the remaining semesters will apparently be made after a committee studies the demands of the students.
