A humorous treatment where it is not due and a plot that doesn't meet with what it sets out to do, 'Ayal Jeevichirippund' doesn't really make a striking mark. Its not that bad a movie and does have its moments. A few changes in the casting and treatment, and the movie could actually have been a surprise coup. One can feel the lost opportunity as many of the turns in the movie and the idea that has been worked out, marks Vyasan K P as a capable director.
The plot is basically about a booker prize winning novelist on the look out for some writing material for his next. John Mathew Mathen (Vijay Babu) is looking to overcome his writer's block to write his second book. It was easy writing his first book since it was mainly his own experiences and the book had won him the Booker Prize. He embarks on a trip to Goa to get his creative juices flowing. There John gets his story in Murukan (Manikandan Achari) whose life impresses him.
The premise of the movie is quite fresh and the idea of a person being an inspiration for a story sure is interesting to watch. But one feels that Murukan's story is underwhelming and the script needed to have been more striking to make an impact. We are taken through sequences that mixes mystery and life lessons. The treatment of the movie could have been different. The gloss and comic interludes featuring Thesni Khan and Hareesh are annoying. A more subdued tone could have done the movie well.
Manikandan as Murukan is natural. His exuberance is brought out well. Vijay Babu too was in his element as a level beaded writer. The actress playing Anjali, the comic brigade and the police in the picture could have been avoided. Cinematography by Hari Nair in the picturesque Goa was passable. Music was not top notch from Ousepacchan's stable. Vyasan KP is okay in his director's cap.
'Ayal Jeevochirippund' is an okay watch with Manikandan's performance and a new theme to engage you. This is not a flick that is feel good or motivational. Even the humour is forced. But sure, with time on hands this one is watchable.
