Baba Kalyani

In Kerala, a film released in 60 centers is certainly a big affair. And so is Baba Kalyani. After a sequel of common man's silent life in many of his previous endeavors, Mohanlal is back with a thrilling entertainer. The new aura of 'Baba Kalyani' is quite satisfying, not only for the fans, but also the general masses.

The thirtieth film by director Shaji Kailaas and the reunion of S.N.Swamy with Mohanlal after seventeen years don't go out of the board as the fast moving frames narrates how a super star policeman bursts a terrorist group. Baba Kalyani offers a heady mix of family and action outings in a quite certain ratio for sure. But how much you get satisfied with the mix up  is the matter of concern.

The Film has Mohanlal in a full time police character after a long break. Baba Kalyani, played by Mohanlal, is an IPS officer who is in charge of Anti terrorist cell well supported by his four colleagues.  He is different from the run of the mill police officers you see on screen, as his investigative approach is different. He is said to smell lawlessness. He has extreme intelligence and subtle provocative methods.

Baba Kalyani, as one could expect in a Shaji Kailaas story, is arrogant and committed, but not quite like his earlier protagonists. The team opts for a local police intrusion for the sake of a follow up enquiry, which ultimately proves to be cardinal. The team opts for a local police intrusion for the sake of a follow up enquiry, which ultimately proves to be a cardinal. The local police subordinate role played by Jagathy Sreekumar adds lighter flavor to the otherwise serious thread. In the core the film deals with the internationally supported terrorism activities and their plans. It also shows the depth and breadth of the terrorism roots in local domain.

The film moves fast as Baba Kalyani is pledged to rip apart a well organized terrorist plan. The romance and sentiments scenes are shared by Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Mamtha with  Lal.

Lal looks slim and composed as an I.A.S. officer, which gives a refreshing difference from the recent characters of the star. Sayikumar plays a good character role while Indrajith comes as a good anti hero in the show

A deliberate attempt to inject the family theme into the thread however seems to be redundant. Not so excellent, still flawless script by S.N. Swamy lays a solid foundation and Shaji Kailaas-Mohanlal team is yet again in the way of creating a hit.
