Dr Asthana of ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ gave a new lease of life to the actor in Boman Irani. The photographer turned actor won acclaim by doing several prestigious theatre productions like ‘Mahatma Versus Gandhi’. A few off beat films won him the ‘Good Actor’ tag, but it was ‘Munnabhai…’ that really changed his fortunes. For after doing a string of films, today he charges something in the range of Rs 40 lakh/ per film. (It’s a colossal amount considering many of the mainstream heroes and heroines get less than that).

Boman Irani was recently seen in a brief role in Naseeruddin Shah’s directorial venture ‘Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota’, a role he did only because of his immense regard for Naseer the brilliant actor. As of now, he has a few big releases coming up shortly. First up is Raju Hirani’s ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ where he is playing Sardar Lucky Singh. For playing this character Irani actually lived with a Sikh family to understand their real mannerisms so that he avoids playing a caricature of what Punjabis are supposed to be. Next will be Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don’ where he is enacting the important role of the Inspector played by Iftikhar in the earlier version.

It seems there’s no stopping Boman Irani who is still madly obsessed with his first love of photography. He is going digital now. Keeping up with times….Keep it up dude!
