Chaos in Pakistan polity as Finance Minister set to resign

Asad Umar, the Finance Minister of Pakistan, has decided to quit the Imran Khan cabinet. "As part of a cabinet reshuffle PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance. However, I have obtained his consent to not take any cabinet position. I strongly believe Imran Khan is the best hope for Pakistan and inshallah will make a Naya Pakistan," Umar today said.

Umar's decision comes in the wake of several businessmen and industry leaders criticizing him for not clinching a deal with the IMF, which is ready to bail out the ailing Pakistani economy. Instead of the IMF bailout, the Imran Khan government is seeking loans from countries such as China and Saudi Arabia. This has not been to the liking of many.

"For 8 years Imran Khan presented Asad Umar as the answer to Pakistan’s economic woes... in 8 months, Imran Khan is not satisfied with his own answer," a commentator said.
